Cylinder Replating process.

- RAT can
repair your worn or damaged cylinder back to stock piston size.
- We first strip the old
plating from your cylinder and assess the damage.
- If your cylinder is only
worn, we size the cylinder to a new stock piston.
- If your cylinder has any
scratched, grooves, or cracks, we weld the damage so the cylinder can
remain stock.
- If you're looking for
more horsepower, we can bore your cylinder to fit an oversized piston.
- When big boring a
cylinder the existing port angles are machined away. To restore
the proper porting angles, you have a couple of options.
- For increased
horsepower we can match the ports.
- For maximum horsepower
we can do a full port job.
- You can leave
the ports as-is, however you will not get the full benefit of
the big bore kit.
- Before plating your
cylinder we chamfer all ports so there are no sharp edges to catch the
piston rings on after plating.
- We
then plate your cylinder with durable high-quality nickel.
The cylinder is then honed on our precision, self-centering honing bar
with diamond cutting bits. The result is a cylinder that is straight
with precise piston-to-cylinder wall clearances.
- For the final step
we chamfer the ports again to remove any plating buildup on the port
edges, removing any sharp edges for the rings to catch on.
- After gapping the
rings for proper clearance, your cylinder is shipped back to you, ready
to race.
- Our
average turnaround is 6 to 8 days so you'll be up and running in no
